The three mistakes students make trying to get a job in real estate
The same three missteps come up again and again among students trying to get into real estate.
By the CRE Modelling team
None of them is about ability. All three are about timing and preparation.
1. Sleeping at the wheel
The biggest blunder? Starting too late. Spring and summer internships in real estate aren’t just an opportunity, they’re vital stepping stones. First year at uni? Time to start applying.
2. Not enough applications
It’s a numbers game. Broadening your horizons means more applications: between 100 and 200 internship applications isn’t overkill, it’s strategy.
3. Unprepared for assessment centres and interviews
Don’t underestimate the gauntlet that is the real estate assessment centre and interviews. They’re not just tough; they’ll break you.
Success in real estate is only for the well prepared. Breaking into real estate is a gruelling marathon, not a sprint. Starting blocks matter.
Preparation is your most lethal weapon. Use it wisely.
